So I'm guessing that the sliding door locks the blade in place? The set screw and handle look like they don't add tension unlike most SE models. Very Interesting...
Awesome design. I'm just not a fan of the long professional blades. Rocnels been kicking razor butt in the market lately. Design wise.
Razors will probably be sold through extrashaving.com rather through Rocnel. I already bought some Rocnel items and the delivery was extremely quick using DHL Express.
I believe I've figured out the purpose of the sliding head. The base plate exhibits threads; therefor the handle has a male threaded post; this post screws through the base plate and when the head is slid into place, it pushes on the top cap, thereby clamping down on the blade like pliers. If you look at the photographs exhibiting the profile, you can see that there is a gap and that the gap is angled and bigger at the back. Together the male and female track act as a linear pivot for the clamping action. What do others think?
I also think there is a screw in the handle that attaches to the head that totally secures the upper and lower plates.
The field of SE razors using the Feather Artist Club blades seems to be getting somewhat crowded. Nonetheless, this looks like an innovative design (seems to be the norm from Rocnel) and it will reportedly be quite reasonably priced. Like I need another razor. --Bob
My SE50 cleared Turkish custom so hopefully it will arrive here in California end-of-this or beginning-of-next week. Here's a great video by @ckeskin showing the blade loading
The extra step of putting in the threaded screw is a step that I wish eliminated altogether. Why? Because I always take my razors apart, clean and oil the blade and the razor after every shave. Apparently, the top cap compression is set via finger tightening and then the handle simply takes act like a double nut situation of locking, but not adding additional compression to the top cap. Although a unique feature against other SE razors in this category is it warranted?
