I have finally finished my first set of brushes over this long holiday weekend. Family Photo 22mm Knots Left to Right: 1) Maggard Synthetic. Handle is unstained and sealed with wax 2) Maggard Black Synthetic. Handle is based on a Civil War Bullet, stained in Drift Wood Stain then sealed with polyurethane. 3) Maggard Black & White Synthetic. Handle I got from a antique shop. I had to sand it down to bare wood, sealed it with Danish Oil then a couple coats of wax. 4) Maggard 2 Band Badger. Handle is what I am calling a bubbles. It reminds me like three bubbles stacked on top of one another. Sealed with Danish Oil then polyurethane. 24mm Knots Left to Right: 5) Maggard Synthetic. The handle I was trying to copy one of my name brand brushes. Golden Oak Stain, then sealed with polyurethane 6*) Maggard Black & White Synthetic off set in handle. Handle, Danish Oil then some wax. 7*) Maggard Synthetic. The handle was my attempt at a Cooling Tower design. There is a nuclear power plant in the next county east of me. It was stained with Golden Oak Stain then a couple coats of wax. 8*) Maggard 2 Band Badger. Another bubble handle. Sealed Danish Oil than a couple coats of wax. * - Knot placed for photo. Still have to add a two more coats of wax before setting knot.
Yes & Yes This set is numbers 1-8. The next ones will have roman numerals on the bottom. My Wife asked the same question when I showed her the Cooling Tower(VII) brush to see what knot looked better.
Impressed!!! In this world of "perfectness", I especially like the rustic look of your handles. No. 4 is nice. As a fellow woodworker, I have learned to use knots and imperfections in the wood to work to my advantage. Good work.
