Hi I got a question for y'all would someone who has to do 5 passes to shave with a safety razor get better shaves with straight razor? And I mean an actual straight razor that you have to hone and ETC. Also if i were to get one where would I purchase one? Thanks!
First, if you need to make 5 passes to get a good shave with a DE something isn't right - either you need to improve your technique or you need a different DE. Will you get better shaves with a straight? Not necessarily, you still need proper technique, and the learning curve on those is MUCH greater than a safety razor. Although I do use straights, I get better shaves from a DE or SE, but that's me. Oh yeah, purchase at Whipped dog.com or gemstarcustoms.com
well i'm using the razor at a 30 degree angle it just to achieve BBS i need to do 5 :/ I will look into those retailers I'm using a Parker 65R safety razor with Atra SP blades
That may be your problem. The Parker 65R is not an aggressive razor. But with an improper technique it could be an issue.
30 degrees isn't the magic angle, it is a starting place. Some folks have round faces, some square faces - each unique face requires a unique angle. I'll stand on what I said - poor technique or just not the right razor for you.
I have discovered that two passes can get one BBS-close, but requires an very aggressive DE razor. Most folks here seem to get at or near BBS on three passes with many different DE razors. Many here also strive primarily for a comfortable, great shave and if we happen to get to BBS, that's just a fringe benefit of a exceptional shave. I only do two passes with a straight.
When I turned 14 I had a mustache and side burns so I finally said forget it I'm shaving later that day I got a can of edge and a Bic disposable razor and shaved it off getting irritation since i didn't have a dad to teach me how to do it i decided to Googled shaving and now I'm here at age 15 lol
You might also wish to try a blade sampler to see if a different blade setup would work better in your razor and most importantly against your skin.
You need to get an adjustable or a slant to get an aggressive shave IMO. I mean there are other razors that will give you a close shave, but to save you the trouble of the search I'd go with those.
