That's a good one. It's probably been at least 3 years, if not more.

Done. Very interesting! I had to run a complete research project for a class in graduate school. We had to go through the IRB of the University and have everything approved. Since that experience, where we relied on people to take our survey, I try to take every survey that I can. Research can be so helpful.

That was the hardest class I ever took. Learned a lot, though.

I must be some kind of special breed of weirdo, I still use them! I like getting a new one and looking through the yellow pages for new restaurants and the like. Off to take the survey now!

Phone book? The Netherlands landline phone company has not distributed paper phone books since five years ago.

I am amazed that a country like the USA would still distribute paper phone books. Feels like a waste in this "digital age".

I use the phone book. The pages and the thickness of the book make it perfect for stropping my SRs.

It's not the country printing them, but companies print them. It's not a public service.

Companies make money by selling advertising space. Until the printing and distribution costs exceed the advertising revenue, phone books will continue to be published.

So you have different companies for land lines? How does that work out?

Telephone companies today offer services such as wireless and land communications, internet services and cable and internet TV. Their stock is publicly traded on the exchanges. Calls, text messages and internet services are seamless to the users. Let's say that I subscribe to Verizon services, but I can call my sister even though she uses AT&T. She can call her son who uses T-Mobile. It's all seamless to the user. As far as I know of, the telecommunications companies don't publish the phone books, but other for profit companies do.

Personally, whenever I receive a phone book at my curb, it goes right into the recycling bin!
