With soaps I use a slightly damp brush to load then paint it on my face and add drops of water and finish to desired lather. Using less water in soap bowl keeps things neater and doesn't waste the soap. Edit -- After watching the super slick lather video I agree that this is a good technique. The key is the proper water to soap ratio. Better to start with less water and add very small amounts at a time. When I first started out I used too much water right off the bat and did not get the ideal lather.
