Thank you for explaining that. I always wondered where pictures disappeared to. I guess I must have thought it was like socks in the laundry.
Always. Storage isn't a big concern. Maintaining the integrity of TSD as an educational tool is a larger concern.
I would visit TSD more often if you got rid of Tapatalk. I find the Tapatalk nag screens on various websites incredibly annoying, and look forward to the day when the Internet is Tapatalk-free. Any forum worth it's salt works well on mobile devices nowadays. Tapatalk is therefore unnecessary. Postimage seems pretty long-lived. I learned about it from posts here at TSD. I use it because it allows people to see the images full size even if they aren't logged in. I also keep backups of the images on a hard drive.
I believe that is because non-Tapatalk users are using outside photo sharing sites like Photobucket who broke their links looking for more money. I'm a member of another forum that requires us to use an outside hosting site to post pics and it's a pain. Let me give you a few reasons I like Tapatalk. 1. There is no easier way to post pics. I can load them from my camera roll, or even take them from within Tapatalk and they load to the post correctly sized. I don't have to do any post production work like resizing or uploading to a hosting site. 2. I can PM a pic with the same ease and the pic is not large. 3. I can have the three forums that I visit regularly show my notifications on one screen. 4. I get my notifications in the app without email notifications. 5. I paid for the commercial free version of Tapatalk and like that feature. 6. I can still see the polls by clicking on "Web View" at the top of the screen to see the poll. This is not an issue. I still stand by my earlier question. Is this a significant expense? I also wonder if the fact that all of us that use Tapatalk are posting smaller pics and our links don't get broken, isn't a good thing for the forum? Photobucket screwed a lot of forums. I'm a little disappointed by the strong negative opinions of users that have no experience with Tapatalk. I've done it both ways and prefer the ease of use I get with Tapatalk. While I'll be very disappointed to lose it, I won't completely abandon TSD if it goes away. Thanks for asking for our input Sparky.
The advantage of having everything (forums, PMs, notifications) in one place: Oh yes, and I just pointed at the screenshot and clicked "send", that's all to upload the picture.
I didn't even realize pics weren't full size when not logged in. I had to go see for myself. I wonder if that is a setting sparky can change. I'm not sure but it has been on my mind lately, too. Still, it wouldn't be a suitable replacement for those who use Tapatalk to monitor multiple forums in one place. Pics went missing long before Photobucket's recent change. 1. I don't mess around with TSD on my phone hardly at all, but I was doing so earlier. I didn't post a pic but I was taken to my camera when I clicked Upload a File or the Image button. Can't recall which. Have you tried posting pics from your browser recently? 4. Notifications are available without email here. Though I think your focus on that point is the app. Yes? It's not quite quantifiable. Revenue from affiliate links always fluctuate, but they have dropped significantly since Tapatalk came into play. The security of off-site hosted pictures is never insured. Tapatalk could just as easily decide to do what Photobucket decided to do. I'd have to read through again, but I don't recall seeing anyone with strong negative opinions who haven't tried the app. Most folks are being supportive of TSD. Some realize the security issues involved with Tapatalk, too. 99+ notifications? Are they at least dismiss-able? I don't need notifications when someone likes my post. Can you customize what notifications you get?
I like Tapatalk for image handling, but I would still visit TSD if it saved the money and dropped Tapatalk.
I would visit TSD without Tapatalk but only when I'm at the computer. Tapatalk works best for me on the phone. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I dig that the administrator posted the poll and wanted feedback, *often things change without getting feedback from the membership. *In all walks of life. But not here.
Do you run the free version of Tapatalk by chance? Looking at the fee structure the free version shares the revenue of ads. The $10 a month version looks like you can install and maintain your own ads. Sent from my S8+ using Tapatalk
Why not use Postimage or a similar site? It's really easy to use both from a smartphone or a PC. You won't hit any storage limits, unlike forum uploads. Maybe if Tapatalk would ditch the annoying nag screens, people wouldn't have such a negative opinion of their app. I know I wouldn't.
I thought I remember that either through paid versions of Tapatalk or in the install files you can suppress the nag screen. Interested in which version we are using here. Sent from my S8+ using Tapatalk
