After spending some time with my Feather Artist Club razor, I decide to try a conventional straight razor. I ordered the "Hydra" from Portland Razor Co. in black acrylic scales. It has a 6/8” Spanish point quarter-hollow ground carbon steel blade. A big thanks to @Drygulch and @Keithmax for helping me decide on my first straight. Here are some photos of the Hydra from the PRC website. This one is shown in Walnut scales.
Order one, and we'll learn together. I actually thought about that one. It's in PRC's "Artisan" line. I purchased one of their "Classics," as I thought it would be better as a starting straight razor - lighter and more maneuverable. I also had a hard time deciding between the French point (the Chopper) and the Spanish point (the Hydra).
Good luck, Charlie! It's a nice looking razor. Threads like this make me thankful that I haven't been bitten by the str8rzr bug.
Thanks Rich. I've been playing around with a Feather AC shavette over the past few weeks, and I've enjoyed (survived) it. Why don't you come over and join the 30 day focus crew for December? I'd enjoy seeing your daily setups and learning from you. There's even some shenanigans in case you're interested. I hope you had a great Thanksgiving. A pack of dogs got our turkey again this year, but otherwise mine was great!
