After I recently bought two more racks for my ever-growing razor collection I thought I'd share some photos for those who might want to see how my little collection has grown. These are my safety and injector razors. (Apart from these I really only have two straights and a shavette). Rack 1-2: Gillette DE Razors As you can see there are a lot of empty slots still...and I will have two more arriving this or next week; - Gillette #58, and - Gillette Psycho After that I think I am rather 'done' when it comes to Gillettes. To entertain myself, I have these razors sorted in chronological order - oldest to the left. Challenge: How many can you guess just based on this photo? Spoiler answer below: Spoiler (Move your mouse to the spoiler area to reveal the content) Show Spoiler Hide Spoiler Rack 1 - Gillette DE's ordered by date (1900-1950's) 1) 1908: Gillette Single Ring 2) 1917: Gillette Single Ring 3) 1930's: Gillette Big Boy DeLuxe 4) 1930's: Gillette NEW, Gold, common bar handle 5) 1930's: Gillette NEW, Gold, ball end handle 6) 1930's: Gillette NEW, Chrome, common bar handle 7) 1937-39: Gillette Sheraton 8) 1941: Gillette Ranger Tech 9) 1952: Gillette Black Tip 10) 1956: Gillette Blue Tip 11) 1959: Gillette Fatboy Rack 2: Gillette DE's ordered by date (1960's): 1) 1960's Nacet [Gillette] 2) 1960's: Gillette Flair Tip Rocket *Made in England so no precise date code 3) 1967: Gillette Slim Rack 3: SE Razors Most of my SE razors. A lot of GEMs. Rack 4: Mixed rack This is my 'don't know where else to put them' rack. It's a mix of non-Gillette DE razors, SEs, Lather catchers and Injectors. And, some group shots "Aerial" view: Hmm...ten empty slots....
I'd say with the exception of; - the two single ring Gillettes (that I still have to clean up), and - the Deluxe Trac II I've used every single razor at least once in the past 12 months. I do have my favorites though that see a lot more use than others
Very nice collection. It looks like your Ranger is a Senator. It looks like it has an open comb? Could just be the angle. Nevermind. I see it in the other photo now. It's in fantastic condition.
And therein lies the dilemma of too many razors and not enough face to shave. Once a year per razor (minimum) is sort of short-changing usage, IMO, on some of the razors. I'm in the same boat with not being able to get enough use from many of my straight razors in order to really detect nuances and compare models.
Agree. I think at one point I'll have to just decide between; a) Do I keep all razors but set aside 75% of them as just nice collector items and keep them on the racks to look at and fondle, b) Sell the 75% that I don't actively use, or c) Keep doing what I'm doing and randomly hopping around between razors. Since I'm rather enjoying 'c' I think I'm sticking with that for now. I might well move to a combination of a and b later on though.
Wow! Nice group of razors. I thought you had more razors than me. I have 38 safety razors (DE, SE, and injectors) plus one straight. Yours are very nice.
Goodness. Now I know where ALL the razors are. You have an outstanding assortment of razors. What's the most impressive thing, they're all in very good condition. Do you have a stand for your RRSS?
I have often wandered what your razor collection consisted of, so I really like this thread. Thanks for sharing. You have a great collection of razors.
