Hi: I purchased a razor that was coated in crud yesterday for a whopping $3. I cleaned it and uncovered a razor in extreamly nice shape. It's a Gillette TTO with a flared bottom. The date code is D 1. Sorry. Don't have pictures yet. Can anyone tell me what I have here?
Very nice... Sounds like a "Regular" Super Speed (the ones with the flared/conical TTO knobs). If it's all silver-colored, it's a 1958, First Calendar Quarter razor. They are great shavers, and "Regular" in terms of aggressiveness (in the middle of the available Super Speed variants). Hope this helps, --Morrie
Thanks all. Sounds like $3 was an okay deal. I shaved with it this morning (along with a fresh Derby) and got an exceptional shave.
Most likely a TV superspeed. Does it just have the vertical stripes on the handle, or does it have horizontal also?
You guys are killing me. Is the TV of more value than a standard SS? I'll take a look at it tonight and give you a better description and perhaps snap a couple of pics too. Thanks again for your help.
They tend to be more valuable, but more importantly, I think they look cooler. 1958 was the only year for them. edit: I just enjoyed a very nice shave with a D-2 this morning.
I understand. Two things amaze me however: 1) Things can quickly get off topic here, but that's okay, it makes it more fun. 2) See number 1.
MWF is great. Aqua Velva stinks. Cartridges work for some guys. I like shave soap better than shave cream. I thinks that's enough to really get this thread going
