Hi: I recently picked this up at a local antique store. Marked Gillette. Some brassing but I have seen worse. What do I have here? Thanks
Sort of looks like one of the originals.. I do not know the mode number but the handle seems to resemble the Merkur 1904 which was made to honour one of the original Gillettes. I am sure other people might have a better idea though.
Tom, Where do you find these razors??????????? I've never seen this handle style on a Gillette. I've always wondered about the Merkur 1904 and how the design came about. I've looked through the books and can't find a Gillette that looks like this. I once had an Erickson (sp) from the 20's with this handle style. I'll do some diggin when I get a round 2 it. Someone will figger it out!
Does it have a serial number stamped into the top side of the comb plate? (The surface the bottom of the blade rests on.) If it does, post it and we may be able to ID it.
No serial number. Just the Gillette Logo plus made in USA stamped on the bottom. Steve: I keep looking for a Superspeed particularly a red tip or another Fat Boy and I stumble upon these older razors. I did put some Maas on it but really need to spend some time polishing it up. Tom
Very close. If memory serves me correct, this is "the original gillette safety razor", also known as a gillette 1904. Merkur later used the design of the gillette 1904, and called it the 1904... ingenious name huh.
1904 was a good year, the weather was so different then. I get a bit nerdy with the old double edges, and I seem to retain useless information forever (that's probably a curse). :ashamed001
I am going to assume that CT is an American educational term which I am unfamiliar with.. Or I am just really tired.. :rofl
No serial number means it's after 1921 and probably after 1931. The head isn't clear enough for me to make out what it is. Richard
