I just picked this one up last week. Brass open comb with a hexagonal handle. Can anyone help me identify make/model?
Sorry, I haven't got a clue. But it looks rather nice (at least I think it will look nice when it is thoroughly cleaned...)! Congratz on an unusual find!
I just got one of these too. The only thing that is even close to an identifying mark are the two ridges I. The top of the cap. No box. Paid $3 for it. Any ideas?
I saw a couple dozen at a shop several years ago and bought one. Never was positively identified (as I recall) because neither box nor razor had any markings. Probably some kind of bottom bidder gov't contract. IIRC, the handle may have been lead but I'm unsure on that.
I agree with Jim completely. The top cap looks to be anodized steel. The handle may have been the same. I'd check it with a magnet. @Shotwell No worries about it being made of lead man. All the lead they could beg, borrow, or steal went into ammunition. Hundreds of millions of rounds of it.....
I have a couple actually. The handle is made of aluminum. I've never shaved with it though. Perhaps tomorrow I will mate the head to a heavier handle and give it a go..
It's magnetic as the dickens. The cap, base plate and the handle, which is very heavy. It also rusts like nothing else I've ever put in water. Like half an hour after washing it, giant blobs of rust forming on it kind of rust. So I don't think it's aluminum. I am thinking it is steel? Obviously not stainless
I am too. Well, probably not given the era. Possible, but not likely. And for the record, stainless is exactly what it says it is. It typically stains (or rusts/corrodes) less than carbon steel.
I just bought Frankenrazor because it was cheap, and in a nice Super Speed box. It is the handle for this razor, in aluminum, matted to a Gillette open comb head... they connect, but not well. The threads on the head are too long for the handle to sit flush. I can do something with the pieces though...It is a decent handle actually.
