I currently have a pure badger brush that I use with shaving cream, but I am interested in getting a boar brush to give one a try and see how I like it. I would like to get one similar in size, or slightly larger to my current badger brush which has a 63 mm handle, a 50 mm loft, and a 21 mm knot. Does anyone have any recommendations?
Well Stirling would be a great place to start. They have a boar brush on their website that is very affordable and most people here love many other Stirling products. There are also a few people here who sell/adopt their custom brushes and you can have it made however you like which would also be a great option.
I've heard good things about both of those brands. The Omega Pro 10048 is one I have been looking at but am worried it may be too large, but at the price I may give it a try anyway.
I'm actually thinking of getting one of those as well, and maybe a horse along with a boar so I will have one of each type of brush.
Maggard is hard to beat. Also check out envyshaves and apshave? On etsy. Or again there are memebers here who make and or restore brushes. Like these for example Sent from my SM-G930P using Tapatalk
That's kind of what I did. Boar does take a break in process but one of my favorite types of knots besides synthetic.
Agree with the comment about the Semogue or Omega. I have both and they are my favorites - especially the SOC seen below soaking getting ready for another shave. I almost never use my badger brushes anymore.
Omega brushes are a good value. I even take knots from Omega brushes to put in brushes I make. They are fine knots.
He's not promoting himself but I will, his brushes are great! Exhibit A.... Sent from my SM-G930P using Tapatalk
I love my Semogue 1520 boar brush. My wife has a Razorock Plissoft synthetic, which is OK, but I strongly prefer boar. One of these days I will try a good badger to compare to the boar. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk
I have three Omegas and one Semogue. I prefer Omega; the Semogue knot doesn't seem as dense (not as well packed) as Omega.
