I have period brushes from Rubberset, Made Rite, EverReady, Peerless, Baton, Plymouth, Opal, Erskine, Simms, Marvy and Surrey and they are all fabulous.
The two rightmost on bottom shelf are new but all the rest are at least 50 years old: The red and cream Speer is at least 45 years old:
Shout out to Jim @bladeshark for pinning down the age of my brush to anywhere from the mid fifties to 1957. Thank you Jim!
So, I'm gonna stick with my Rubberset 303 for a while longer. It's got a great face feel and lathers like a champ!
Really lovin' my Rubberset 303. It's been lathering anything I throw at it no problem. And for being at least 60+ years old, it's only shed 4 or 5 bristles. We used to make 'em good.
Rubberset, Made Rite, Ever Ready , and many others would supply for other manufactures. I've seen Made Rites and Ever Readys that looked identical to your Rubberset. Rubberset and Made Rite use to supply Fuller some of their brushes.
I'm giving my Rubberset 303 some time off. Did a full clean tonight. Probably going to go back to it during the upcoming week. I may go to the fleamarket Sunday and see what else I can find. The last two Sundays have been good.
Used what I'm going to start referring to as my "birth year" brush this morning. The Rubberset 303 did an outstanding job on my new Italian soap(see my 30DC Shave entry). Going to go around my lineup this week to give all my brushes some love.
Now I know you're holed up in your shack... And you have all your gear there for a pic? Man, you got it bad!
I have on occasion, put a recently used brush into an empty toilet paper cardboard tube to dry and straighten out the bristles. Especially if you have a brush that got rode hard and put away wet so the bristles are twisted or bent. That seems to work pretty good. YMMV NICE BRUSH BTW!
Today closes out the week of my using my 1955 Rubberset 303. Gave great lather and I didn't lose a bristle. Next up..
