Hello everyone, Just purchased my first safety razor last week (Merkur 34C). I shaved with some Proraso shaving soap and it went well I think for my first time (only one small nick on my chin). I'm anxious to learn more and get recommendations for brushes, soaps, aftershaves, etc. No more disposables for me.
First recommendation get an alum block they are cheap, last forever, help with skin irritation, and most importantly give automatic feedback to your technique. Long story short if the alum burns you shaved off skin. 2nd recommendation join the 30 day crew for some great comraderie and teaching Sent from my XT1710-02 using Tapatalk
Welcome, from Texas. It feels liberating to be free from Cartridges, doesn't it? It's like when you first learned to ride a bike without training wheels.
Welcome @dbell! Glad you joined us here at TSD. Take a moment to visit The Newbie Giveaway. Read the rule to be sure you qualify. The learning never stops if you try to stay up with new products. Visit the Shave of the Day to see what folks are using this week. Interested in upping your Shave Game? Click the link in my Signature below for The 30 Day Rule/Focus thread. It's a bunch of new shavers learning vintage gear & vintage shavers trying new gear. There may be shenanigans.
Welcome! I just started recently also with a 34C. Been fun learning the past couple of no that's Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Welcome to the Den from Central NJ! @dbell My den used to look like yours until the AD's kicked in. A piece of advice..don't fight it. If you can afford it, roll with it baby!! Funnel the money you used to spend on carts and goo into soaps, creams etc. The suggestion about the 30 Day Rule/Focus is a good 'un. Take a look then jump on. You can start now or lurk 'til 8/1 and get in a full month. I guarantee your technique will get better. Plus there is a great group of guys(and a couple of gals) to give you a hand or enable your AD's. Enjoy your shaves!! And may I say YO!(another thread)
