There was a shaving convention today. It was called ShaveCon, and was at the historic Horton Grand hotel in downtown San Diego. It wasn't promoted much and I only found out about in on the local news last night. It isn't going to replace ComicCon as San Diego's largest convention any time soon. There were about a dozen or so vendors/exhibitors. There were some familiar faces - the Captain was there: I sampled scents from Chiseled Face Groomatorium: There were vintage razors exhibits, but not nearly as many as I would have liked. In fact, this was about it: A closer look: Nice looking Toggle, as well as a Wilkinson Empire 7 day set, a Gillette Super and an Ever-Ready 1924 in the back. I did meet a local artisan who does custom woodworking, including shaving brushes and razor handles. I picked up a nice handle for my Alumigoose single edge: It is made of red cedar, resin coated to make it waterproof. The collar is gun-metal gray which looks good with the blade anodized aluminum of the Mongoose. It was great to be able to talk to vendors and fellow wet shavers face to face, not to mention handling merchandise and buying on the spot. If anyone reading this is in the San Diego area, the convention continues tomorrow (Sunday April 17) until 1:00 pm. --Bob
Thanks for posting this Bob. I heard about it through youtube. I think the big shave west is the next big meetup in California...Pasadena. Must have been nice to open up and actually smell the various soaps and aftershaves. I would have brought my own coffee beans to help from getting overwhelmed.
I was supposed to be in San Diego today at 1:30 but weather in the mountain states has me re-routed and not in until after ShaveCon is over. I was hoping to catch a few hours of it
