I'm posting the upcoming THEME WEEK a little early since I'll be busy tomorrow - Easter Sunday, and the kids/grandkids and a few friends are coming over after church for supper. Great times!! This week is devoted to the Single Edge razor, affectionately called the SE 'round the shaving forums. When most folks think of an SE they think of the Gem MicroMatic or the Ever Ready 1912. Others think of injector razors, and even a few of us think str8s. They all have one thing in common - they each have a blade with one shaving edge to it. If you have one you haven't used in a while, dig it out and show it some love! I tend to use DEs during the week, a str8 on Saturdays and an SE on Sundays, but rest assured this week will be all about the SE! Take some pics and show us what ya got! Can't get enough SE? Check this out ---> *click* And a Happy Resurrection Day to all who celebrate!
I've got an E2 with one shave on the blade and a GEM blade with one shave on it, I plan on alternating the E2 and some of the SE's I've got. Should be a fun week.
Someday I'm going to get me an injector, hopefully not too aggressive but enough to get a BBS with. I haven't done my research on these yet but seeing a few at an antique shop got me curious. I didn't know anything about them so wasn't sure they were usable. The head on one looked bent out of shape. The SE I do have is an English 1912 Everready, which was the last purchase I can make in awhile, so I sort've wished I would've waited and got an injector instead cause they appeal to me a little more I haven't shaved with the Everready yet but hopefully soon I can I'm a little nervous about it!
I shaved with a G1 today and the thing is pretty much idiot proof. As seen by the fact that an idiot (me) was running late for church and had to do a fast two pass shave. WTG and ATG. Face lathered some Arko, not to my usual standard of lather but time was a factor. Despite rushing and not properly developing the lather, I got a great shave with nary a nick. See, idiot proof. The Schick G types are awesome and easy to use. I highly recommend them.
Woohoo!!! SE Week is my kind of week! Have kicked the week off with my Dovo Bismarck 6/8" this morning, it will be either that one or my Japanese Kamisori or my Cobra Classic this week! Will try to get some photographs taken in the coming days.
Nothing wrong with an English 1912, they are outstanding razors, same as their American cousins made in Brooklyn ;-) With the right blades, that is.
Shave of this morning! PAL Injector second shave with this blade, I like the feel and sound of the thicker blade and the ease of the shave with the injector. But I can't seem to shave as close as with the DE. Hopefully I get better with it this week...
That 1912 is a very mild shaver, different angle, but mild. Try it out on your cheeks then if it's going well, try the neck. Stay away from ATG on the neck at first and don't look for BBS. You'll love the old girl. She shaves like a champ!
Dropped a Gem blade into my Gem Push Button and wound up with a great shave. It's gonna be a fun week!
4/1/2013 E2 Injector with Schick blade (2) Vie Long horsehair brush with Proraso Red soap and face lather 3 passes and finish with Masters Bay Rum Very smooth shave, my injectors always give a smooth shave. Didn't load the brush enough to start and lather was a bit thin on third pass, but even so it was a great shave to start the month.
I love my Schick Hydro-magic. Did 3 passes with some j-hook touch-ups on the jawline and got one of my closest shaves ever. Not even a little burn when I put the Aqua Velva on either. Just nice cool menthol. Some credit has to go to the Arko though. Had a really nice slick lather with it today. Soap: Arko stick pressed into a bowl Brush: VDH white-handled boar Razor: Schick I2 Hydro-magic Blade: Personna Platinum Chrome (1) AS: Aqua Velva Ice Blue
Have decided I will focus on the Dovo and the Cobra this week, the Iwasaki will have to wait for another day week. Here's my SE line-up for this week:
OK, been putting off the injector for some reason. Guess I will pull it out as well as one of the Personna 74 blades I have been saving as well.
I haven't used my injector for a couple of month! Monday Cerve unscented cleanser TSD unscented soap Muhle hjm black fibre brush Schick injector with Schick blade Cerve unscented lotion Took me a few minutes to get back my muscle memory on using the injector. Shallow angle -- head almost flat against the face; no pressure; slow, smooth strokes. I did three passes, got a satisfactory, but not quite BBS result. Little bit of irritation on the chin -- careless with the angle there. Love the variety!
