I had an older Semogue 1460 boar brush and a Made Rite Number 5 brush that needed a replacement knot. I decided to remove the knot from the 1460 and re-knot it in to the Made Rite. The pictures pretty tell the story. I did a trial and error to get to the base of the Semogue knot. Cutting some of the wood from around the sleeve made the Semogue knot sleeve clean-up a little easier. With the taper of the metal Semogue knot sleeve, I decided to epoxy a hardwood dowel in to the base of the knot to help in anchoring the new knot in to the Made Rite handle. I set the knot with 15 minute epoxy. The rest is history. I believe the old Made Rite Number 5 looks pretty cool with the Semogue 1460 knot. I’ll give it a few days for the epoxy to cure and then give it a shave. The Semogue 1460 knot has a great reputation so I know this will be a keeper. Thanks for looking.
Thanks for the kind comments. I have a Semogue 1800 with a split handle. The first wood handle Semogue in which I have encountered a problem. Since this S1460/Made Rite came out good, I am going to fine a candidate handle for the S1800 knot. I still have a couple of vintage handles.
Thanks for the kind comments. Here is an update after a couple of lathers. The bloom will only get better. This brush is the best of both worlds.....a retro handle and a nice Semogue boar knot. Felt great on the face.
Wow - looks fantastic. Very nice job on the new brush and documenting the process which will help others doing restores.
