Is there a difference in the functionality or the feel or the performance of the soap if Sodium Hydroxide is used as opposed to Potassium Hydroxide? thanks
There is not enough info in your question to give a general answer. Both are from a small group of chemicals referred to as "lye". Both are strong alkaline compounds used to saponify fat, turning it chemically into what we call soap. If these chemicals are not present, it's not soap, literally. I have used soaps made with both types of lye, but the rest of the recipe really is what determines the quality of a soap.
Thanks Chris, So it is not a "one makes the soap better" situation but the sum of all the ingredients?
Sodium Hydroxide makes hard soap, Potassium Hydroxide makes soft soap. Makers vary the ratio depending on desired consistency. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
