Shower & Shave

A lingering hot showering this morning.

While showering today's brush choice the Semogue Owner's Club was warming up.
It's lathering chore was with Chelsea's Soap Garden "Katmandu". As always the Semogue was up to the task. Today's lather was very luxuriant, rich thick lather.

I chose my most aggressive razor an early 1900 Gillette Open Comb, loaded with a vintage Gillette Thin. Shaving with a non stainless blade, is an unique experience. The first pass was a little rough. Once I tweaked the angle and let up on the pressure the second pass was a little smoother. Three passes I had a great DFS.

Cold water splash felt great afterwards, toning with RazoRock alum, a generous splash of Superior 70 to crown a great shave. With the heat I find splashes to be the most refreshing.

2 pass good shave. I tried to do the hot towel with some lather on and it seems like it really didn't do anything. Also it seemed to me like my lather was drying out a bit. I don't know why I had so much trouble today. It's like everything is trying to annoy me. Still second shave with a straight and I came out on top with no blood and a pretty good shave for my inexperience.

 

Yes, I was pleased when I bought the thing, and downright thrilled once I'd shaved with it.

Another two pass DFS+. Finally changed up the routine a little bit. Can't explain it, just went with it. Very nice shave.

Another great shave, although a little quicker than I would have liked. The Mystic cream which I bought from Shaveabuck has awesome lather which my Turkish horsehair really works up into my beard stubble well, and it has a nice and classic scent. My only complaint about it, if you can call it a complaint is that although menthol is listed as an ingredient, you can't feel even the slightest trace of a cooling effect. The 444 balsam and Aqua Velva solved that problem for me!

The Personna blade I stared out with was on its 3rd shave and wasn't so hot after 1st pass so I grabbed a Lord at random. NEVER AGAIN. I'm BBS but I've got 2 dozen nicks on my face and neck, more than I've had since I began DE shaving. Alum block barely slows 'em down. These Lords go in the trash and I'm gonna have to wait a couple hours to put on the a/s.
