Second shave in the trial for the Super-Max Super Platinum. I'm not even going to try and oversell this one. No issues, smooth as glass, near-BBS finish. That says it all. The only thing I'm trying to determine now is whether or not this blade is better or worse than the Platinum. As one who doesn't necessarily believe the hype that "super" is better than the normal (or at least not a significant improvement) but more of a marketing ploy, I want to see if I can choose one over the other. Right now I'd say they're even. The final shave on 9 may make a difference. We'll know tomorrow!

One more day at work for me then I'll be off for 7 days on a vacation. Not going anywhere at this point so I'll be free to spend some more time catching up here and getting a few things done around the house. Hope you have a great weekend!

Father's Day Shave​

This was the same Shulton scent that was in my Dad's bathroom in the late 70's/early 80's when I was a kid. He had Old Spice aftershave and the deodorant on the sink. I found all this vintage stuff on Ebay and I've been using it rarely and sparingly. Time to pull out the 'REAL' classic vintage Shulton Old Spice on Sunday!

'The King is Dead.... Long live the King!! The 'New' Tallow+Steel soap is impeccable.. even though the lather was a little wetter than I usually have it, the protection was second to none, and as for being slick, well, I had to double grip my razor a couple of times, and almost had the brush slip out of my hand once or twice... Post shave leaves a wonderfully soft face feel, and the only reason I used the aftershave splash, is because I could... Now, if you've ever been to Africa, North or South, you will be familiar with the smell of smoke in the air, and the scent of Morocco is everything you could wish for, to evoke those memories.. Totally sublime in all departments.

 

Freeze baby freeze - that's exactly what happened to me thanks to the Glacial Eskimo Tuxedo soap and the Glacial Unscented balm. A little of the Krampert's Frostbite aftershave splash, and did I ever get another icy-cold blast. It's going to be around 90 degrees here, so I'll need all the menthol goodness I could get. BBS again, but this Astra blade is pretty well done.

In memory of my Dad. He was an Aqua Velva man, and he loved Tabac. This was a great shave. He also loved baseball - he played semi-pro in the 1950s, and his backup as catcher made it to the majors. My Dad quit baseball for the Korean War and a job at GM after.

Mastro Livi Grifetto 60: Shaving Like a King!​

Today this Mastro Livi Grifetto 60 gave me a king's shave. Grifetto will never fail to amaze me, both for the pleasure of using it and for the magnificence of its super smooth shave. I have to admit, the pleasure of this shave was also thanks to the P.160 Professional soap, in my opinion the very best shave soap of all times, no soap in the world can beat it. Super performance in lathering - rich, creamy, luxurious, moisturizing and velvety - it seems like it was conceived for straight razor shaving. It is not by chance, in fact, this incredible shave soap was conceived in the 1970s and destined to professional barbers who, at those times, were using straight razors. It is a pity - way too bad - they discontinued making this fabulous soap. Not to mention the excellence I got with the unparalleled performance of Floïd aftershave and the Mastro Livi Eco-Silvertip brush. A truly king's shave!​

In the soap, the menthol is quite understated. It's a subtle tingle. The splash steps it up a little more, but it's still light. Overall the set is a very nice Summertime product that starts as a legitimate grapefruit note including a sharpness that conveys not only the flesh, but also the *peel* of said grapefruit. The splash does the same thing, but the drydown after about 30 minutes reveals the oakmoss adding some depth and complexity and thus yielding a less whimsical fragrance. The staying power is about 4 hours for me.

The Paradise Frost soap's scent, lather, and post-shave care are great. I also noticed there's just a slight cooling sensation from it which becomes noticeable during the second pass.
