Here we go again - a new shaving week. Here are my plans.

    Menthol Monday:

Gatsby Ice Cooling Gel Facial Wash :love055: :love055: :love055: :Animatedfrozensmily: :Animatedfrozensmily: :Animatedfrozensmily:
    Large Horsehair Barbershop
    Super Speed/new Shark
    Synergy Frost_byte SS :love055: :love055: :love055: :love055: :Animatedfrozensmily: :Animatedfrozensmily: :Animatedfrozensmily: :Animatedfrozensmily:
Gold Bond Moisturizer :love055: :love055: :love055: :Animatedfrozensmily: :Animatedfrozensmily: :Animatedfrozensmily:
Osage Rub AS :love055: :love055: :love055: :love055: :love055: :Animatedfrozensmily: :Animatedfrozensmily: :Animatedfrozensmily: :Animatedfrozensmily: :Animatedfrozensmily:
    Pino Silvestre EdT

Freeze, baby, freeze - with this set-up that's what you can expect to happen. Every item is really cold, beginning with the Gatsby facial wash. That Frost_byte soap is very well-named, and not only does it deliver a super-duper menthol wallop, it also lathers immediately with GOOD skincare. I enjoy the additional cooling from the Gold Bond moisturizer, and the Rubby Dubby Doo is the proverbial "icing" on the cake because it's so damned cold. These Shark blades have better longevity, so it seems than the Sharps. ;) :D

    Semogue 1305 Boar Brush
    Gillette NEW SC
    Astra Superior Platinum
    CWR, Asma Alum Block
    Thayers Rose Petal WH
    Pinaud Clubman AS

The Mitchell's Wool Fat Shaving Soap face-lathered very easily with my Semogue 1305 Boar Brush. Two passes with my Gillette NEW SC and Astra Superior Platinum blade gave me a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse, alum block, and a final cold water rinse, I finished off with Thayers Rose Petal WH and then Pinaud Clubman Bracer after shave. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

    MONDAY
    Evening Menthol shave for Monday!

I used my favorite 'combo' of soaps to create a extra-thick, menthol-laden lather for this evening's shave. Even when cut with the Cade soap, the Stirling 'Glacial Obsidian' still packs a chilly wallop on the face!
The thick, creamy lather is ideal with the challenging blade I was using. Finished a 3-pass shave with a splash of the Fine 'Black Orange' which seems to compliment the black licorice scent of the soap. An excellent shave!
    Have a great Monday, everyone!

Coate’s Lime cream today. I loaded the ER brush for 5 seconds and got enough superb lather for 3+ passes. Polsilver SI in the Slim. Another excellent smooth, close, nick free shave. I finished with Proraso Green (nice menthol finish).

    Brush: Vie-Long 13061M horsehair
    Razor: Weber PH
    Blade: Merkur Super (1)
Post: cold rinse and Ogallala Bay Rum

I've heard stories about the poor performance of the Merkur blades. I did not experience that. In fact, it was just fine and helped me have a DFS to start off the work week. I wonder if the reputation of the Merkur blades is more because most of us try them in our first few DE shaves when they come with our shiny new Merkur HDs? The blades came with my son's Merkur razor and he did not get along with them and he gave me a pack of 3. I tried it today and it was, well, a razor blade and did just fine on the first shave.

    Prep: Warm shower, Cetaphil Lotion
    Razor: Merkur 34c
    Blade: Personna Lab Blue (2)
Lather: WSP Lavender Rustic Shave Soap
    Brush: Oscar11 w/ Omega 20248 Knot
    Post: Witch Hazel, Cetaphil Lotion
    Aftershave: Vintage Shulton Old Spice

If you want an inexpensive soap that smells as good as it performs, try any of the WSP soaps. I have tried several different ones and each of them performs as well as any soap or cream that I've ever used.

    Have a great day!

    Menthol Monday

    Prep:
    hot shower
    Razor: "W2" ball end tech
    Blade: Merkur (day 3)
    Brush: Vie-Long
    Soap: Col Conk lime w/M-bomb
    Post: 444

I tried something different for today's menthol Monday shave, and used a non-menthol-alted soap, Col. Conk Lime. I used TSD M-Bomb To get the menthol. Three drops weren't quite enough, but it worked and was a great shave. Despite the puck almost being done, I don't use the Col Conk soap much as I find it dries out my skin. It does make a great lather though...

I went a bit beyond my typical two pass shave and spent more time with touch ups for a DFS+

10/20/2014 Open Comb October / Menthol Monday!!!

Prep: Hot shower with Nivea Face Wash with menthol, home made PSO
Razor: GEM Micro Matic OC, Wade & Butcher Bow straight razor
Blade: Gem PTFE coated SE blade (6)
    Brush: Turkish #6
    Soap: Sterling - Frozen Tundra
After: Home made ASB, Barbon after shave
Cologne: Tom Ford - Tobacco Vanille

A very cool comfortable Darn Fine Shave today. The #6 whipped the Frozen Tundra to almost a yogurt like consistency. The MM OC and the W&B made quick work of the stubble. The Barbon kept the cool feeling going for a while. The TV will keep me smelling great all day.

    Have a blessed day!

    Menthol Monday:

Prep: Hot shower, Neutrogena Invigorating cleanser, TSD Jasmine Sambac Preshave balm
    Brush: Simpson 56 Best Badger
    Soap: Stirling Glacial Obsidian
    Razor: Merkur 41c 1904 OC
    Blade: Asco SS (5)
    Passes: WTG, XTG (11, 12)
Post: Cold water splash, Bloc Osma Alum, Dickinson's WH, Aqua Velva Ice Blue AS splash
    Cologne: Xeryus by Givenchy

In an effort to get better lather from the Stirling, I let it soak overnight. Unfortunately, this seemed to make it even more challenging to lather. It was still freezing cold with good skincare, but the lather was just a frothy mess that required twice as much work as the other soaps in my rotation. Couple that with an Asco blade on its 5th and final day, and I was done after two passes and something approximating DFS results.
