I hope this is not too far off topic...but it is related to storage of SRs. I was reading in my SR book that you should never store SRs with celluloid scales in with other razors. They are more prone to spontaneous deterioration and when they break down they release a gas that is very corrosive to other blades/metals. They say you should store them separately. Also you should not wrap your SRs in paper towels for storage...something about acid in the paper. After I read this I made a few changes to my SR storage boxes. I was guilty of wrapping my unrestored SRs in paper towel.
Keep them in the open air. The off gas is very acidic and corrosive to metal. Way off topic: My favorite guitar picks are celluloid.
I picked this up on Amazon. It's made by Penn State Industries and is designed to be a pen display and storage case. My large blades (e.g. 7/8) fit on the top shelf but not the bottom. I put a couple of packs of silica gel desiccant in with it and works like a charm. It holds 24 razors.
That is almost my entire collection. I had two that didn't fit in, plus I have 7 inbound. My goal, (wife is really encouraging this one,) is to get the collection down where it all fits in this case. Considering that it holds upwards of 40 straights, I don't think that's unreasonable. I will think of upgrades when I am purchasing new straights, and get old ones out.
The lighter black/brown scales, or the ivory with the Indian head inlay? The Indian head inlay is a Cattaraugus Seneca and is one of my favorite razors. Keeping that one. The black/ brown scales are on a Champion Remington Rifle razor. Fantastic shaver, US made, but I haven't decided if I will keep it or not.
That one just left for a trip to the Great White North. After almost 5 attempts, I have determined that when I need scales I should send the razor out. Found someone who loves restoring razors between month long job assignments, and did some trading. I've actually reduced my total SR count by about 15 this year.
