I was eyeing these 7 razors on the bay. I decided to make an offer. I offered $32 and they took it. Any info would be greatly appreciated. First is a Clark &Osborn with GR crown 1 small nick in the blade. I hope I can get it out. Next is one I cannot make out much. something Steel and warranted good. This blade should clean up nicely. The steel has a nice glow to it. Any help on this one? a John Barber with Ivory scales. The side you see has 2 breaks in it. The other side is good. I will try and do a scale liner out of 1/32" G10. It should cleanup nice. It does have a bit of a weird smile on the end and no spine wear. next is an IXL Washington works Wosty hard to see the etching in the picture. Hope it cleans up ok. Then 3 beaters If anybody has dates on the 3 stubbies and Restoration suggestions. What one should I jump into first. These should keep me busy for a while. Tom
Nice find. There looks like some treasures, possibly, in there. The first one is a Stubby(Clark Osbourne). You might need 4-8 layers of tape, to achieve a decent bevel. The second possibly a Stubby. Scary oxidation on the edge. The rest don't look like Stubbies to me. I could be wrong. They all look like they need your mad skills to resurrect them. I hope the edges are salvageable. The third razor just needs new scales, or a few days with some layering of CA. The fourth, up in the air on the rust on the toe end of the bevel. It could be light, it could be deep. Elbow grease and a 60x loupe will tell. 5&6 possible light rust on bevel. Looks like good salvageable scales from those pics. 7th, possibly light oxidation on the bevel, good scales from pic. I hope this isn't being too pedantic.
I think @Hodge is correct Scottish Steel. After removing the majority of the rust. Looking in my loop. I can make out ITTISH. I think I can also get som good steel for the edge with a bit of work.
Definitely looks like Scottish. Glad someone else saw it! I was about to say, zooming in on the pic with my phone I can make out. "TISH Steel" but had no idea what it meant! Whew! That was gonna drive me nuts tonight Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
In any case it looks like it will take an edge. The steel is very hard. I got the small chip almost completely removed. Before I go farther on the edge. I will clean the blade up. I need to get some horn material for the scales also. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
