I love all my razors. They were feeling lonely. As for my stubby I had a shave last week with it. It did ok. Needs more love on the stones. Life is kind of getting in the way of shaving these past few months. I hope things start turning around soon. Tom Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
The key to a truly sharp and smooth edge is all about what happens on the 1K mostly and the 4K. That is where the perfect 'V' apex is formed. From that point forward you are simply refining that apex. If it is a 'U' no matter how much you polish it, it will never be a great shave. You can get a decent shave from a great 1K edge. Before I had a loupe and was guessing at when my bevel was fully set, I was challenged by a well known razor restorer to keep working my 1K edge until it would shave well. At that point is when my apex was a perfect 'V' and the bevel was set. If you are struggling with getting a great edge it is a great exercise.
I'm doing that now with a couple of razors. I have one Shaving and one that still needs work. It's a helpful exercise.
Any info on this one would be appreciated. All it says is "Warranted" on the side. It is a true wedge, cast iron blade, and horn scales.. It was in sad shape, when it arrived. The scales were split and peeling in places. It cost $11.99, so I rolled the dice. I figured the scales were shot, but with a lot of sanding, they smoothed out. Oh, it does shave well.
It isn't as delicate as a full hollow. It tends to plow through, almost silently. It shaves very well, and takes a hair popping edge. Those old wedges don't feel anything like hollow ground razors. At first you think it's not shaving, until you check.
