Hi Is a styptic pencil the same as an alum block for nicks and weepers? Do they perform the same or is the pencil better for nicks?
They aren't quite the same, but the end result is, if that makes sense. I prefer the pencil so I only effect the small part that needs it, while I know others have a daily routine of alum all over the face after a shave, something you'd never do with a pencil.
Hahaha no that would probably take to long. I used to use my block after i shave but i stopped because I thought it gave me bumps. But if it's used to stop bleeding, are they equally as effective? That's what I wanna know =)
IMO the styptic pencil stops the bleeding the second it touches the cut. Where Alum soothes the face, and doesn't stop the bleeding as fast.
Really? =P then I'm adding it to the bestshave.net shopping cart, an why not 2 hahaha. Now that I'm not ordering 12 Arko sticks for the free shipping I can add other stuff muhahaha
I got 2 in the shopping cart already =P This is what I got so far. They have a lot of stuff. I want the camelot stick, derby stick and 2 nr.6 brushes. But they are out of stock
I was not aware that alum soothes the skin. I might have to purchase an alum block when I order more supplies. Normally however I just use a cotton round with some witch hazel. I guess I prefer WH because 1. All , or most Witch hazel is American, at least that I know of and 2.Since I live in Ct I am supporting local business seeing as most is distilled in lovely Ct.
So far I haven't cut myself yet *knock on wood* but its nice to have around especially if it's more effective that my alum block for when I do get cuts (when I get to cocky)
I am on anti-coagulants so when I bleed I bleed good LOL but so far the styptic pencil has stopped them all pretty quickly. It STINGS pretty good initially but that fades fast..
They sting dude. Adonis isn't joking. But it should help your technique though as you will likely be more careful not to get nicked.
Yay but it hurts so good that you learn real fast to slow down and enjoy the shave from my own experiance.Take care 45auto
Another good thing with the pencil is when you have a zit, cut it flat to the skin with the razor during the shave and then mash the wet pencil into the open zit wound. It'll sting like I don't know what, but the zit is dead and done with. All that's left is a little crust that'll quickly disappear during the following few shaves. Done deal. Yeah, I hate zits. They have to leave the premises no matter the pain.
