Hello guys, there's an ivory handle in my den that's longing for a nice and soft badger knot. I have quite a few 2-band/finest brushes, so now I'd like to try a 3-band silvertip. From your experience - what would be the best of the inexpensive bunch? One that's not too floppy, maybe extra dense. - Whipped Dog? - Frank Shaving? - Virginia Sheng? I love my WD High Mountain brush, so I am leaning towards buying the knot from Larry, but maybe you have a better suggestion. Thank you
You know Larry's Quality and Workman Ship already if you have one of his brushes. I would support his business.
What about this is a fantastic brush great backbone for face and bowl lather you should look into this brush as I love my brush so much.
I've had great luck with Virginia Sheng from Ebay on a lot of my restores. Knots are full and the shipping is fast considering. Currently have 5 handles that carry various sizes of their Silver Tips.
I haven't tried one, but Elite Razor's 3-band High Mountain White get really high praise. They run $50-60 dollars I think. Nathan Clark's Luxury are still in that $40 ish range, but you might get a little denser knot than some other options. I have had good luck with all the TGN knots I have had. I have had a couple of Whipped Dog silvertip knots; they were super soft, not much backbone. They bloom out really nice, and have good flow through, because they aren't super dense. I have only used Virginia Sheng 2-bands. Again, not super dense, but good flow through and the price is sure right. I don't think you could go wrong with any of these. I just received my two Virginia Sheng silvertips and put them in these two handles. This is the #107. It has been adopted. New parent will bloom it. This is the #120. I will be blooming it tomorrow.
Thank you all for your help and suggestions. I decided on a Virginia Sheng Silvertip knot. It arrived yesterday from China. Here it is with the handle I already had: The knot was supposed to be 23.5 mm, in reality it was more like 24.5 mm - a bit too much for the 24mm handle So I had to use the Dremel today. After a few minutes of widening and deepening the hole I set the knot with Epoxy: I'll let it dry for 24 hours and use it for tomorrow's shave
