I am looking for lathering bowl suggestions. I need something at least 4 1/2 inches wide with texture on the bottom. I put a high preference on original/unique pieces. Any thoughts?
Some people use a Japanese Suribachi bowl like this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000UEYXL8/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1471241119&sr=8-1&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=suribachi+bowl&dpPl=1&dpID=41fuEPlf7qL&ref=plSrc If you expand the pic you can see the texture. Just substitute your brush in place of the mortar.
Texture inside the bowl. Good call! If you want a custom piece Symmetrical Pottery looks good. I haven't tried one yet. I do like the suribachi bowl I picked up at an Asian market.
I do like the suribachi bowls. I have been looking at those. I just wish they had more pizzaz. This is my first introduction to symmetrical bowls. They are sweet looking, but with a minimum 12 week wait...wow! Of course, $40-$45 is pricey too.
I use a green milk glass bowl that I found at a thrift store. It fits my hand perfectly and has a textured surface. It's easy to grip even when soapy.
My favorite one is a hand thrown soup bowl, with a handle on the sides, flat bottom and a right angle at the bottom. Makes a great lather, and the inside is textured as well.
Just my opinion, that one compares to pieces my children gifted to me. It looks quite unsymmetrical, in an svelte sort of way. You might approach a local pottery artist an commission a custom piece specific to your texture, size, and color desires. Mispeeled Via Kyocera / Tapatalk
My laptop is undergoing 87 Win7 updates, viewing on my phone is a small screen. I'll see it bigger later. One thing I've learned from the shave business : if it works for you, it doesn't offend me! Mispeeled Via Kyocera / Tapatalk
