My Tech has most of the same markings under the head as my Super Speeds except that it has no date code. Do all Techs not have date codes? Are my super speeds unusual in that they have date codes? Did Gillette not intend to make techs for years?

Techs were introduced in 1938 with mass production starting in 1939 through the 1970's. In 1950-51 they began to carry the date code indicating the year and quarter of manufacture. Techs were a staple for Gillette for many years. They were easy and inexpensive to produce. The cap and blade guard were stamped out of metal cutting costs. Some had short handles (travel sets), some had long handles, ball end handles, plastic handles, aluminum handles, some gold plated. Some were created as give aways for various companys like the airlines, Many came in cardboard boxes, some came in metal boxes. Many, many variations. A mighty fine starter DE.

Thanks Steve for your comprehensive answer,

The only thing I can add is that:

no your Super Speeds are not unusual for having a date code.
