Now *that* looks like a great lil shaver to me! Excellent, matey! Verstuurd vanaf mijn 5042D met Tapatalk
I just watched your hanger razor shave. That is pretty cool. Too much pressure! I was thinking maybe we could resurrect this old thread. Too bad we haven't heard from Mike in about a year now. I know he got really sick, but he eventually got better. I was able to talk with him, but he has since dropped off again. Anyhow, I still have the brush I made way back then.
I've had some ideas for a couple of brushes ... under $2, I don't know ... under $5 or $6, I could do and it could be a right nice one. I figure in everything in the cost (excluding my time). I think we need more categories ... like $2, $5 and $10. I think it could still be fun.
Good afternoon Gentlemen! I read this thread with great interest. I had a desire to do something with my own hands from what is. I had a wooden bar, a hacksaw, a drill, a 6 mm drill, a 18 mm wood drill (the biggest one I have), sandpaper, knife, burdock oil for finishing. So, I started to make a handle for a shaving brush. I do not have mechanical machines for woodworking. There was a desire to make a handle for the shaving brush, and a sharp knife. The wooden blank was very dry and hard. Now I need to poke a knot of horsehair, or a wild boar, 18 mm in size. Photo process.
Great job on the minimalist wood shop! The wood looks like yellow pine; which can be very hard when aged even a few years. I found that badger was the easiest for me to find in 18 mm.
Enrico, thanks for your feedback, this is cedar. Really very similar to pine, but the pine is resinous and has a completely different smell. The thing is that the cedar differs in its properties, depending on the conditions under which it grows. This may be the northern or southern slope of the mountain.
I would chalk this one up to a $5 DIY .... Starting with a spool that came with some junk I bought for the razor in the box; so I count as free. I plugged the center to bore it out. I bored it out to accept a 18mm synthetic I got in a mix up on ebay and to accept a 2018 penny. I soaked in Teak oil for 24 hours and assembled it. Final tally in price ... Spool ... free Knot ... $1.75 Penny ... 1 cent Filler ... 1 cent Epoxy ... 5 cents Teak oil ... 5 cents So I guess it does come in under a $2 DIY. I'll probably add it to the 2018 TSD Raffle later tonight.
