So I saw the notice on my phone for a new razor on Kickstarter, the Angle Razor. When I started reading about it, a straight razor for the modern age that takes replaceable blades, I'm like that's a shavette. Which the guy later admits. Me being me I fall for marketing and hype, so I'm almost tempted to pick one up. Link: https://www.kickstarter.com/project...ury?ref=nav_search&result=project&term=razors
I saw this too! "... unlike most shavettes the Angle Razor has been built to last ". Now, I don't own a shavette but have been following @Bama Samurai 's March Madness PIF thread. Nothing pictured in there looks like it's built poorly or of cheap materials. Is this really a thing with shavettes? Is their lifespan significantly shorter than a DE or Straight?
Weck shavettes, called Hair Shapers, have been around for decades. Here's a 1937 advert. Not sure how old this Sextoblade is, but Personna blades are still available.
Seems like a waste of money. Why pay $75 for a razor you won't get for months when you can pay half that for a quality shavette now?
Because 'merica. 'Nuff said. The wait doesn't bother me, it isn't like I'd be without a shaving utensil until it arrived. As for the price, I don't consider it outlandish. I mean, if you only stick to vintage stuff you pick up off eBay sure it might seem excessive, but considering the prices of some DE and SE not to mention straights, I don't find it that bad. But I'm not even 100% sold on it. I've only done one shave with a shavette. The rest might not go so well that I don't want to ever mess with it again. Time will tell.
We've shaved with handheld SE blades. Still waiting to see a modern design that will make me get out of bed.
One of the very things I was referring to. The reputation is exists. One of the unique things that drew me here. FUN.
Sleek, uncluttered, minimalist. They've got the Modern Design going on. The only innovation I see, if it is one, is the downward slightly less than 180° Angle of the head to the handle. The two currently available top of the line kamisori style shavettes I'm familiar with are angled upward. I haven't used either of these. Question for those that have; Would the different angle help or hinder?
