I thought it would be fun to make a thread for people to post the auctions they lost, and show other members the goodies that slipped through their fingers. I missed out on this: http://m.ebay.com/itm/361345599500?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&_mwBanner=1 I had a $35 snipe on it, and hoped it would end up going for about $25. Someone else wanted it more than I did.
No photos, but I did lose out on some dandies…. 1960 Gillette Model 195 'Fat Boy' 1st qtr; sniped at the end for $40. (three years ago). My bid was $35 Rubberset 400 brush; about 2 years ago; sniped away for $60…grrrrr. my bid was $50.00. No other bidders…... More recently: two near-flawless Otto Deutsch 'Hans' straight razors; sniped away for $2 more than my top bid (too conservative) buyer got a fantastic deal. My top bid was $60. (should've bid $75-80.) DePew 'monkey-tail' SR; these sometimes go for over $100+, but this one had some wear. I decided to play it conservatively & low ball at $50. Sniped for $52 by someone else (only other bidder)… Looked similar to this:
This...could be a long thread.... Just to limit myself to the three-four most recent ones that I snoozed on..: 1) The Daveso Garanti This razor was in a lot of 5...sold for $26 w/ free shipping. I was distracted The Daveso Garanti were one of the first dual-comb three piece razors out there. 2) LeCoultre SE An absolutely stunning LeCoultre w/ box and stuff. Ugh... 3) Wilkinson Flip Top 3) Three pin Friodur 415 in near-mint condition
I lost on a nice Russian Leather cologne/aftershave set in a leather case by $2. the other guy put in a much higher bid at the last minute. I think it sold for around $30 shipped.
That was the idea. Always nice to see interesting stuff that doesn't make it into "the haul" or "what are you waiting on to arrive" thread. Also, for those who don't know, www.gixen.com is the best free eBay sniping service out there. It will automatically place your maximum bid on the auction in the last few seconds of an auction, preventing both stress and bidding "wars." If you are an adrenaline junky, it's probably not for you.
That Twin Works 415 is a beauty! they do pop up on occasion but finding one near flawless is rare. Nice shavers…. BTW: The 'Friodur' line is a specific subset of the J. A. Henckels Zwilling (Twins) company, usually with the tang stamped 'Friodur' and logo on the scales. The 'Friodur' process (here applied to knives)
Missed out on this fine old 'humpback' Sheffield razor (another Wosty)—but the price jumped to a level that was far more than I was willing to spend. I always have another line in the water, however....
Wasn't really trying for this hair brush, but it was in better shape than mine and came with the original velvet bag, but not the box. Went for $26.78 + shipping. Someone got a good deal.
I've got my eye on a mislabeled item, hopefully I can get it. If I can't, you'll see me post it in this thread with this emoticon.
