The Dirty Nasty Gillette Fatboy.

I picked this one up, in a razor lot. There were three razors, including the Gillette Fatboy, that cost a total of $15.50. So, I ended up with this mess, which I couldnt identify the year, at first:

A couple of hours soaking in hot water and Palmolive took the crud off. The Safety Bar gap was uneven, and rubbing on the other side, when opening, so I straightened that out. A 2 min fix. I then polished it with some flitz, and this is what I have. It turned out to be a D-4, not brand new looking, but better.

So, Moral of the story, don't pass up on a nasty looking Gillette Fatboy. You never know what lurks beneath the crud.

Good work. That last shot is interesting with the glare highlighting one of the indents. If you were unscrupulous you could eBay it as the ultra-elusive Black Dot Fatboy!

    Thanks everyone.
If I get bored, I might pop the door off, break out the replating stuff, and replate them.

+1 for saving another Fatty from the wild!
I've only had one that defied my attentions - a stuck adjuster. The other 6 or 8 only needed a good Dawn soak and polishing.

I had that one (slim). It took a couple of weeks off and on in the ultrasonic cleaner to knock all the crud out of it. You can ask @Tiredricefarmer what he thinks of it now.

Very cool keeping them in TSD family. @NCoxSTL, @John Ruschmeyer, and my younger brother have my last good ones.

I have.. four left. *roll* :D

I don't recall that I've shaved with any of the adjustables yet. There are just so many nice non-adjustables.

Very nice find. A steal, and even if you got it replated you haven't overspent for a fine razor. Sweet! I love seeing vintage razors rise from the dead. A 1958 Fatboy lives again!
