what vehicle will you use to move your razors?( trade forum, eBay, classifieds) I'd like to shop whatever you decide.
First dibs will probably go the the TSD classifieds for the majority of stuff. Things that fail to move with then go to ebay. I'm still drawing up a list...
Today's finds... Williams Violet Supreme Talcum Powder tin. I'm assuming the same Williams we are familiar with being its for Talcum Powder. Says "The J.B.Williams Co. Glastonbury. Conn USA" on back and "Pat. Appl'd for in USA." on bottom. There is one spot on the side the is pretty severe with corrosion. About the size of a finger nail. But not rusted through, so we'll see when I clean it up. The razor is a STAR brand. This is the first razor I've bought that was already pretty clean and had NO blade still in it. And, of course, an OS mug. There was an empty aftershave/cologne bottle with cap the had "Schick" in script molded in the bottle front. I'm guessing '70-'80's in style. Still debating on whether to get it and try to refill it with new stuff.
Junk shop $10 purchase- Seven sharpening stones, a couple of which seem to be hones, and a full truck decanter of Avon Deep Woods, with the matching talc camper, also full. The hone with the wood box, is it a translucent Arkansas stone?
Just arrived from South Florida from @Dzia Dzia , Rub n Buff. Don is a master of finishes and is introducing me to this gold leaf Rub n Buff. I will try it out on one of my handles. Gotta figure out which one.
I just went on eBay, just to browse. Within a minute I had bought this. It's been something I've been searching for for a while. So glad I didn't see this last week.
Once you get it on there, avoid playing with the brush for a while. I've heard that it can take up to a week for the finish to cure completely.
My birth quarter razor (Y3) Tech arrived last Monday. Picked it up for a song on eBay. Cleaned up nicely! Before: After cleanup: I'm very pleased!
In a 20 minute timespan in two different antique shops I scored a Flare Tip (Z1), a Fat Boy (G1), and a Slim (J2, birth year) 10 bucks each!
Wow, that's great. Congratulations! A month or so ago I hit 3 antique shops and 3 thrift stores and saw nothing other than old beat up straight razors. I'm too new to even consider those.
