Found this whilst lurking on the 'bay. Been hunting a No.17 for a while and being gold in kind of unique. The case has seen better days but I'm tickled to have it and I have named it "Twelve-y" ... On to #13! To be named "Lucky"
A small update on this lot. It turns out that the Brass MMOC is missing a blade stop. It's not a big deal as I already had a chrome MMOC, but it is disappointing. Anybody need one for parts?
1930 Regent Set made in USA for German market. Neat Blue cross-grain design imitation leather outer case. No crack(s) in the handle.
Beautiful set! That Bulldog is just a classic looking razor. Have you shaved with it yet? The BD is my most aggressive razor. Way more so that the Old Type. Enjoy.
I have shaved with it! This is actually my 12th Bulldog and I'm discovering that something changed around 1919. They are all uber aggressive and I make them more so by backing the knob off a quarter turn but my 1919, 1920s, and 1921s all seem a bit smoother that the 1914-1918 models (note: I'm lacking a 1915 and a 1916) which also exhibit different machining of the knob. Radius instead of chamfer and an ever so slightly bigger diameter bore right up to where the threads start.
interesting. I only have a 1918 and although I love it and would never part ways; I have yet to tame it. I've tried various blades and still get a very aggressive shave and sometimes irritation. My various Single Rings shave like Blue Tips compared to my Dog.
They are moody razors indeed! I find that a Kai stainless is a fabulous pairing and proper lather is a must! Now if you want to talk about an un-tameable razor the Canadian Bulldog is the one! Talk about blood thirsty!!!
