Hey friends!! Here is where you can post all of your new hauls, we encourage pictures. Lots of them. Happy shaving! Kerry
Actually came in yesterday's mail, but I'm putting it on March's Haul. Wow ... only seven days from China! Three 21mm and a 24mm best grade. I was so eager to get these, I just finished a brush build last night. Just letting it sit with a lather to get rid of some of the badger funk. I'll post pics of it later today or tomorrow.
Todays mail call was one of those 50/50 ... half cool and half craaap. I got the same razor in that @Kraken98, so that's all good. But the second half of mail call was a three second look and drop in the trash, due to really bad pics. Clippers I wanted for a project were no good. One of those things ... bums you out enough for no pics.
I received these ten ferrules made by @twhite for the TOST LE brushes. He also sent along a nice Red Cross Gillette Tech with no date code. Thanks Tom.
Having more heads than handles I picked up the much loved Durham Dubarry handle. It's a bit longer and 4g heavier than the Fatip Piccolo handle. Since it fits the Fatip threads and bottom plate I'll probably use it with the Piccolo as I much prefer the grip of the Durham. I figured it was also time to try a New SC so I will. Mine arrived today as well. One observation... I was able to remove most of the "corrosion" on the cap using nothing more than some dish soap and a green scrubby. I'm thinking that this may not be corrosion at all. Instead, I'm wondering if it is the remains of either a protective or non-reflective coating applied to the cap. I'm wondering if the head of the razor was originally WWII surplus.
I think it is surplus. I didn’t have the corrosion that you guys have, mine was fairly clean. I did soak it and put it into the ultrasonic cleaner for a few minutes. Looking at the set it appears to be a mix match of head, handle between simplex and Gillette. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Agreed. I'm kind of wondering whether Gillette really made all those stubby travel Tech handles or if some third party did. Interestingly, I've seen a couple of completed auctions for unused white-box Tech razors (the ones with NSN numbers from "Department Sales, Inc.") which have Zamac Tech heads on Simplex handles. I would assume that there must have been a boatload of the Simplex razors left after the war and companies like Mechanical Servants were picking them up for pennies on the dollar. (Which would make sense on a vending machine sales model.)
I won't bother with the tiny handle, I'll try the PAA Bakelite handle which is a good match. Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
