The Haul: May 2017

It's arrived! The Ever Ready C40 has arrived! I won this as part of the May 2017 raffle. I'll give it a good cleaning and condition the brush tonight.

I figured someone would reknot it. I'd be curious to see how it looks after conditioning and a few uses.

It's pretty nondescript just a small marbled block of brownish gray soap. It is apparently made by Pacha Soap out of New Hampshire, I believe, but this flavor is no longer on their website.

 

Here it is on Amazon. Mine did not have that little box. I gave under $5 for mine.

Hm . I have several old brushes, and never thought to use conditioner on them. I think I'll keep the "Donald Trump" intact, just for the entertainment value.

Well, I started to clean it up and accidentally separated the top of the handle from the bottom half. Since I had a Maggards 22mm synthetic knot lying around and I already had the handle apart, I decided to just re-knot it.

I used my dremel to cut out the old knot and had to enlarge the opening by a couple of millimeters to fit the new knot. The original opening must have been either 19 or 20 mm. I filled the hollow part of the handle with silicone sealant to add a little weight and then joined the top and bottom halves together. It came out great!

I now have a 21st century knot on a 20th century handle. Very cool!

I see your point but if one really needs soap, soap is soap.

 

True - Was just thinking about the expression of the people that run a shelter, such as Star of Hope, being handed 300 lbs of soap, and being told "It's okay, it only sort of smells like old ashtrays."

 

Ah, I read that. That review is false or he got a bad bar. It is indeed very pleasant, assuming one likes pipe tobacco.
