seamus402 You don't mess with Big Slim

OK - I picked up my second late 40"s TTO, this one is notched - and OMG - it is my new favorite. Why did Gillette ever change this design? This is the best shave ever with never a nick. Amazing!

They changed it so 40 years later you would have something to complain about. :D

If that isn't the reason.. it should be.. haha

What's the big deal? It's an old SS with notches. And Jim likes it.

So you guys will stop begging, here's mine. As best I can figure, it's a '49...I just don't remember how I figured that. :ashamed001:D

    Seven bucks.

  8. My 49 SS has never cut me even when I put the blades in ! It would be intestesting to hear what consumers were saying about the 49's at the time.

Do the Super Speeds from the late '40's and early '50's, with the finer pattern in the handle and before the flared handle, actually shave better than the later Super Speeds? Or are they more desireable because they are the "original" ones? If they do shave better, what is the difference in design that makes them better?
    Thanks,
    Dave

My favorite razor is my English Shaving Company gold lined Chatsworth (Merkur head with a very large handle). Haven't used my SS in months, but with all this talk (again) about how great the 40's SS was, I decided to give it another shot. Used it yesterday and again this morning and I am NOT impressed. More blood both days than I've had in six months. With a Crystal, no less.

    Suit yourselves...

  15. Maybe you were just in need of a good bleeding ! Sweeny Todd

If I wanted blood, I'd use a straight. But thanks, Sweeney.

You ever try a Feather in that SS ?
    I'd bet not ;)

I've used a Feather in all my razors. Why do you say that?

Cause its the only razor Ive EVER liked witha feather.
I was ready to give up on the blade altogether until I tried that setup.
    Now its my favorite.
    Thats all ;)
