I see 'YMMV' used regularly on a variety of online forum postings. Its probably become one of the most common default 'safe' ending to many posts—no matter the subject—especially if the poster is expressing an opinion on the topic. I believe the frequent use of 'YMMV' ensures the post isn't going to be perceived as merely a contrarian comment nor a personal attack on a previously posted position. I see some value in using this acronym in certain postings (i.e. whenever one is sharing a personal experience and opinions with a particular soap or other product), but a Bama stated earlier—it is often unnecessary ("A dull straight razor shaves horribly. I like to have mine sharp. YMMV") when posting facts vs personal opinions.
