Some of the razors here make me very envious... but for now, my eBay rescues will just have to do. In from the "bay" today.
Some time ago I picked up this Geneva Cutlery Co. razor. Just finally got around to putting a polish on the blade. There is some staining, but as is my usual practice, I don't like to dig too deep. Besides...as they say, it is good to have a few wrinkles to show your age. I also have a Genco Gold Seal razor also made by the Geneva Cutlery Co.. This razor must be one of their generic SRs.
Just Won the Bid on this Charnley Forest Finishing Stone..It Comes from a Reputable Seller..He Said its Flat & Extremely Smooth & Fine..Its 6 & 1/4 Inches Long & 1 & 3/4 Inches Wide..Round the Same Size as My Escher Thuri.. Billy..
Well..I Was Surprized..I Got it for £46.oo English & Local Postage..There was a Bigger One Just Up before it & it Took the Spot Light Away from this One..The Bigger One Went for a Small Fortune..I Am Hoping for Around 16 K Finishing Capacity..Any Higher will be a Good Bonus..Its Said that Some Can be as High as a 20 K Finisher with Oil.. http://straightrazorplace.com/srpwiki/index.php/Charnley_Forest_Hones Billy..
From Left to right: Wester Bros "Manganese" Steel 6/8 Bone Scales, Bismarck Razor Works "Private Special" 6/8 says Weck New York in etching on the blade has a Lead Wedge, and Caruso Solingen 6/8 Bone Scales These are from a lot I bought a few weeks back. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Cracking Bunch of SRs..I have 2 Wester Bros Solingen SRs & they are Beautiful Top Tier Shavers..Hidden Treasures..Enjoy.. Billy..
Scott..I Love My Arkie..Its a Keeper..Superb Stone..I Am Not a Stone Collector for the Sake of it & Wasn't Gonna Bother with Another Natural Finisher but I have had a Pang for a Charnley Forest for a While Now..I Am Delighted with the Price..Its Not the Largest But I Will be Using it Mainly for My Own SRs..They are a Very Hard Slow Cutting Stone as far as I Can Ascertain.. That Said..If I Plonk Down a 16 K Edge on the Arkie its Finished in a Few Minute's..So Much for them Taking Forever Cause they Don't Necessarily have to be if its Used Purely as a Finisher with a High Grit Synthetic Put Down..To Me that's the Secret..I Will be Using it with Oil..Oh Yeah.. Billy..
Nice find! I have Thistles from New York and Ohio. Extremely hard steel, and a great shaving razor. That has almost no hone wear, and looks to be good sized. Is that Horn for the scales? Both mine were celluloid. That's also in much better shape.
Nice, my main natural finisher is a CF, they are slow but I do like working with mine regardless, I do have a larger stone, which does mean fewer laps, but im sure you will like it, I use Smiths honing solution to finish.
I Use a Gun Oil..A 3 n 1 Type Oil for My Arkie & Welsh Yellow Lake..I have Sent for Some Singers Sowing Machine Oil as Well..I Love Using Oil to Finish Razors..The Edges are Like Sweet & Sweet..I Am looking Forward to Receiving this Stone & Of Course the Edges.. Billy..
