I'm pondering buying a new razor, maybe next month. What are your best three razors - vintage or modern? I'll count them up and maybe we could have a definitive best razor. I don't own enough to comment!
Gillette Red Tip, and vintage Gillette Adjustable (I really like my Slim Adjustable), any Gillette Super Speed. At least as far as DE razors go.
Gillette Old Type, Schick G type, Gillette Super Speed (Y2) Those are my easiest shavers. If I want hassle free simple mindless BBS I pick up one of those. If you don't want the injector then sub out a Fat Boy(E2)
Gillette Super Speed Flare Tip. Mongoose. Blackland Blackbird. *Gillette Aristocrat * A must have in every den.
I will chime in with a vote for the Merkur slants -- 37C & 39C. The Merkur 37G (gold plated) is, sadly, no longer in production.
New 1. Pils 2. Razorock Stealth 3. R41 Vintage 1. Gem Micromatic Open Comb 2. Gillette Milord 3. Gillette Flair tip Super Speed
My top three are very standout easy for me: Blackland Blackbird Rockwell 6S Fatip Grande Honorable Mention would go to my Super Adjustable Those are the only razors I use any more, basically. I have a couple of Shavecrafts I bring on the road with me, but that is it.
May not be my most expensive razors but standout shaves. Distinguished between types of razors as opposed to vintage vs new. 1) Gillette Triangular Tech 3 piece (early Cda a bit more aggressive) Great shave zero drama. 2) Gillette 1947 Aristocrat. TTO (U.S.A.) 3) Schick E2 injector Trailing... Gillette Aristocrat Jr. 1949 (England) Flat base plate. Gillette LC Canadian and Gillette SC U.S.A. equal efficiency both great shaves. N.B. - Found U.S. Short Comb +1 to be more efficient than Cda SC. Comparable to Cda LC. Upgrade of 47 Aristocrat after recent shave off vs Jr. Spot on head geometry coupled with thicker handle and knurling edged out Jr. My choices are not nationalist biased and only mentioned to distinguish between razor variances.
Lots of the old, but steady, Gillette vintage razors being mentioned. Except for the lone Krona, all of my razors are old Gillettes.
