What can I do to get my black beauty unstuck? I was going to use it this morning and it seized when it opened and now it's stuck. I have it soaking in hot water now and I put some mineral oil in it previously.
Mark, my dad and I were just talking about that. I may take that approach. I love the black beauty, I was quite disappointed this morning, but I grabbed my tech and appreciated it instead.
I bought an OCMM that was seized up a bit. Soaking it in water with dish detergent overnight did the trick
Sorry to hear that, Dapper! I'd inspect it closely before applying force. Anything looking wrong, bent, not in line or otherwise not as it should?
I saw in a video that you can put it in a dishwasher. But I don't know if the black in the black beauty can handle it
O.K. first get a pan of water that is hot but not at the boiling point. Around 160F. Do not reheat the water. Let the water cool for a minute after you have got it hot enough. As Fram stated put some dish washing liquid in the water and place the razor in the water and let soak overnight. If it does not unseat, then there is one more trick but lets try the method described first.
I have the same feeling. I do it all the time on all metal razors, but would really hesitate to try it on something with plastic that I cared about. If it were not a black handle, I would have suggested brake cleaner, but I have no idea what it would do to the plastic.
I had that happen to my dad's Black Beauty once. I was pretty ignorant and wrapped a towel around it, took some vice grips, and gently twisted it until it opened. It works fine to this day still.
Whatever you do be patient. It's probably just some old soap and whiskers that are gunking up the mechanism. A good soaking or two might be all it needs, possibly followed with a tiny bit of w-d or mineral oil. I put all of my TTO's in one of those sonic jewelry cleaners with hot water and Dawn when I first got them. Then I discovered the joy's of a 3 piece.
