Hey all! New to DE's.. I was gifted one by Gemmicro when I purchased a straight razor lot from him ... Very appreciated and I love it ... Anyhow here is my question ... I'm looking for a DE razor with a long handle ... Maybe 4"-5"+ is there such a razor at reasonable cost? If so I'll make a WTB thread but wanted to find out first ... It'll actually be for a friend of mine who just sent me about 30 different blades to try ... Thanks all
I don't have much experience, but I thought I wanted a long handle too at first, I came to realize if you only use a three finger grip having a very long handle isn't that helpful
There's lots of longer handled safety razors available. Progress Adjustable & Merkur 20C Parker 91R Parker 98R Maggard MR-7 The Maggard and Parkers will be roughly in the 20-35 dollar range and are usually pretty good in quality. The Merkurs are in the 35-75 dollar range and are very good in quality. There may be something out there with an even longer handle, but these are the one I know about. Oh, welcome to The Shave Den!
If you can find one of these in good condition ... You might want to go to this thread for more ... http://theshaveden.com/forums/threads/gratuitous-safety-razor-photos.35278/
I missed the "vintage" part. Sorry. Jayaruh's Black Beauty comes to mind first, they are very nice. But, this comes to mind also. Schick Krona. I just saw one on ebay that looked to be in pretty good shape. Asking price was about $10.00
The Gillette Star razors. Yeah, marketed for for women, just don't tell your face, it'll never know. A fantastic razor.
All good suggestions: Super Adjustables, Kronas and the Gillette Stars are all great and have long handles. The stars have the longest of them (meant for shaving the ladies legs!)
The Gillette Star(actual name Lady Gillette) is a great choice, as is the Krona. I have both, and both are great razors, with the Lady Gillette just edging out the Krona in build quality IMHO, and the Krona giving a bit better shave, again IMHO.
