Can't get enough Clint Eastwood. Favorite movie is Outlaw Josey Whales (sp?). Hang em high is another favorite.

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. Lee van Cleef and Eli Wallach do great work with Clint.

Robert Redford had some good ones too. Don't forget about the Duke either.

John Wayne westerns are the standard. I liked the the newer version of True Grit. True Grit was based upon my city Fort Smith AR.

I prefer to read my westerns, from authors like Luke Short, Max Brand, Zane Grey, and Louis L'Amour.

I hated the new True Grit. Matt Damon played a good role, but I hated the rest of it. I like the Culpepper Cattle Co., The Unforgiven, Billy Two Hats, Desperado, Silverado, The Man from Snowy River, Savage Pampas, Open Range, Dances with Wolves.

Unforgiven, Pale Rider, Outlaw Josey Wales, Once Upon a Time In The West, Tombstone, Dances With Wolves, Monte Walsh, Quigley Down Under, The New True Grit, Last Stand at Sabre River and there's more that I can't name off the top of my head right now.

I have a big box of those books in my basement. I'm hoping one of my boys starts to take a liking to them. I've started my 10 year old on a Louis L'Amour book just the other day but haven't heard back from him whether he liked it or not.

You list some great movies, I thought the new True Grit was ruined by the scene stealing young girl, its formulaic to have her always wise beyond her years and always with the last word, her role was like Gary Coleman's in Different Strokes. I liked Jeff Bridges in his role as he had some good lines and some comic touches. I thought had the girl been a middle aged woman or a aging spinster as in the origininal movie I would have liked the movie more.

Once Upon a Time, The Wild Bunch - thanks for bringing those up! I'm going to throw out Kill Bill 1 and 2. Really just a western in samurai clothing. But then again, The Magnificent Seven is a. samurai in Western clothing :)

Many great westerns mentioned. I'll also throw out the Trinity series...They Call Me Trinity and Trinity is Still My Name. I can't recall if there were others or not.

    Others I love are
    Unforgiven,
    Jeremiah Johnson,
Once Upon a Time in the West,
Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean
    A Man Called Horse
    Lonesome Dove
    The Magnificent Seven
    Tombstone
Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid

I've also recently started watching the Deadwood series on HBO, but I find it more of a soap opera set in the western era.

I also love Blazing Saddles, but that's not more of a comedy than a western.
