I have tried them all...water, "bloom water", soap, oil, cream, nothing...and lately I seem to have settled on preshave cream (like Proraso or Noxema) as my preference for preshave prep. I am going to assume most of you shower preshave... What about you? What is your preshave preference?
It's a time issue for me so I limit prep. I also have to shave in the morning before I go to the gym. So prep is hot water splash, lightly wash face with mild hand soap and hot water. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
After a shower, I use a DIY oil. It helps the razor glide, but I also think it helps preserve moisture in you skin during the shave.
VDH Shave Butter w/hot towel. It sucked as shave cream, but it works good as a pre-shave. I usually only use it for my Sunday shave. I'm time limited during the week.
I've tried pre-shave oil, pre-shave balm, Proraso, and regular cream. I now swear by Proraso pre-shave. I don't think that it's absolutely necessary but I find myself regretting in the very rare event that I skip applying it. I thoroughly wet my face, apply a bit of pre-shave, lather up in a scuttle, and get to work. Sometimes I use the Proraso pre-shave as an aftershave as well. It's a really great moisturizer and it smells fantastic.
My preshave routine changes daily, often it's a hot shower with whatever shampoo my wife bought. I do enjoy using products like RazoRock Mister Joe, Geo F. Trumper Lime, Rose Skin Food.
Razorock peppermint pre shave & Proraso are my 2 favorites so far. Both have great scents. Sometimes I just apply shampoo conditioner to my face in the shower I take before I shave. It seems to work well too. But it dosent have the the aroma therapy or the face cooling effects of Razorock or Proraso.
