Is that thumb pad an add on, and does it allow the razor to close?

 

Tonight's shave was with an Old Japanese Razor. It had been neglected in the past but it still has a very good edge. It is a wonderfully sharp razor, that is always a joy to use. I had a two pass shave, that left me smooth as can be. No touch-ups needed. Only a tiny nick, while going against the grain, under the lip. Barely noticed it.

In the rotation for today was my Case "Temperite" wedge. It's my silent shaver. 2 1/2 passes gave me a BBS shave.

It's a great razor and holds a nice edge. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

 

No, it's not an add on. It comes on all the EPBD's and yes, it closes like any other razor. I don't know if this was to keep water off the tang or for better grip.
