I finally finished my “Blade Bucket List”! I had three vintage blades I wanted to acquire: Gillette “Spoiler”, Personna 74, and Wilkinson Light Brigade. With the arrival of 30 new Light Brigades, I now have all three. Today was my first shave with the Light Brigade. I used my Gillette Slim. You really can’t judge a blade on the first shave, but it was excellent. I am anxious to see how it performs as we go on and how long it will last. I will report back periodically.
I've been praising the Wilkinson Sword Super Sword Edge blades for a while now. But, I've never tried the Light Brigades. Some blade gurus have said that the Light Brigades are even better.
Five days in with the Light Brigade. All my shaves have been smooth and close. The first immediate impression of these blades is that they are very sharp, sharper than the majority of blades I have tried. I am going to move this blade to my NEW Short Comb for the next wave of shaves. Shave #5
I am pulling the plug on this “Light Bridage”. I have noticed a little dulling the past couple of shaves, but I still have not had one tug in 28 shaves. All the shaves have been excellent. These blades live up to their reputation! The big negative is that you must to be VERY patient to find them at a reasonable price relative to getting four weeks of shaves from each blade.
"Half a league, half a league, half a league onward!" Nice looking packaging and have not seen these in the UK. Of course WS have long ceased to be Brit and I thought the blades were now made in Germany. Not tried a WS blade yet but heard good things. I have got my dad's old Wilkinson Sword Sticky Razor though which being designed by Sir Kenneth Grange is a Brit Icon!
I just finished using my second "Light Brigade". I got 28 excellent shaves on the first one using three different razors. I just pulled the plug at 30 shaves on this blade, all using my NEW Short Comb. Both blades did start to dull a bit, but all shaves were excellent. I never had a single "tug". All the buzz about these blades is well deserved, IMHO. I can see why they stopped making these. Shave #30 with the latest Brigade.
Wow! 30 shaves per blade is a feat I've only duplicated with a Persona 74. I never actually tried to push a Light Brigade that far but I'm not really surprised. They are fantastic blades.
"Balaclava, and a Wilkerson sword was there" was the old TEEVEE advertising pitch circa my wasted youth late nifty sixties early seventies.
