Do you avoid ATG? And if so, does XTG get you as smooth as you like?

Yes, I avoid ATG. I've tried it one time and didn't care for it. Had irritation and my skin felt like it was burned. I most likely have better technique now and would be better at it but to me it's not worth it.

I go one pass WTG and then a second pass on my neck and jaw line. The second pass on my neck is also WTG and then I go XTG on my jaw. That gets me smooth enough. I'm not as smooth as a 3-pass shave but it's fine for me. We all have different definitions of smooth and BBS, etc. I'd classify my daily shaves as a DFS and I'm fine with that.

Two and a half passes most days:
    1st passs/ WTG
2nd pass/ XTG Cheeks and chin, ATG neck
1/2 pass/ XTG neck, with some J hooking lower right neck area
Depending on razor/blade combo usually yields a BBS or at least a DFS+
Sometimes on Sunday(1st shave of the week on a 2 day growth) I'll do a "traditional" 3 pass shave

    Bump here but..
I am currently going back to wtg only for a while and my neck is getting way better. Not sure if wtg is the sole cure. I have also started with alum and Aloe+witch hazel. One extra wash and WH daily. I will soon start doing small changes in my routine. Firstly skip oil and let lather sit longer but after that xtg!
