What was the very first shaving cream or soap you ever used (by applying with a shaving brush). Do you still use it? For me it was Edwin Jagger Sea Buckthorn shaving cream. My wife got me started in wet shaving by giving me a razor, brush, the EJ soap & mug last Christmas. Little did show know the monster she would create! Since I just started wet shaving 7 months ago, I still have that puck and I'm using it this week.
Real Shaving Company cream - inexpensive and reasonable good cream. I still occasionally use it, with a few drops of M-Bomb added... I gave a tube of it, along with a bar of Mikes Natural Soap and a badger brush, to my Dad for father's day. He was pretty excited - he is 73 and doesn't remember ever using a brush or real cream/soap before!
Maca Root shaving cream from The Body Shop. Fortunately, we picked a winner and I still use the stuff!
My first too. I think a study would show that first time DE users are more likely to become addicted to wet shaving after using Maca Root Shave Cream. It's the gateway drug of the shaving world. So slick, so creamy, so easy to lather! I still use it exclusively when I use a straight razor. DE's are more forgiving, so I can experiment.
Old Spice 1965 At that age, I was easily swayed by REALLLLY good looking women or even the dumbest hint of one in a stupid advertisement. So I decided a long time ago that I'd better marry one or my life was going to be a real mess. One of the few of my plans that's actually worked out right.
Mine was VDH deluxe from the kit... I have been shaving for a little over 3 months now and I still use it... On my second puck now.
Weleda shaving cream was my first . Excellent cream, I still use it, and I'll buy it again when I'll finish it.
Seems like first was dove or ivory soap ends in a mug. Then what ever got for birhday or Christmas then back to regular soap.
My first was with my own blend, though it was made for my husband. I borrowed his brush, because I wanted to know why he made such a fuss over it. I quickly understood. We still use the same kind of soap, but his brush has since been replaced, and I have gotten one of my own.
Mine was Old Spice. When I was little my parents bought me a shave kit with a brush, but I would just grab a can of goo from my dad's bathroom. I thought it was never ending, so I would spray a whole bunch of goo on the brush and rub it in thinking I was accomplishing something.
Burt's Bee's Bay Rum I used the whole puck and really liked it untill I tried other soaps and realized that it smelled nice and that was about it
awesome topic! my first soap was a vanilla scented puck from classicshaving. I used up that puck and then tried a puck of Herban Cowboy... I think I tried one more puck of classicshaving then moved on to other soaps/ creams. I haven't tried the classicshaving brand since.
Mine was KMF Key Lime. Loved it, I hand lathered for a while before getting my Marvy Mug. The only time I use KMF as a stand-alone product these days is when I shave Jeff's neck. (I know that pic shows a puck of soap, but these days it's KMF). When I use KMF today it is to build a super-lather to give my soap or cream just a bit more back-bone. Luckily, I have four full bottles in reserve ... just in case.
Not the start of my wet shaving, but to answer the specific question at hand ... Cake of Colgate and a VDH brush. ~1992. Purchased both at a KMart of all places. Colgate disappeared shortly thereafter and I moved on to VDH soaps. Got 15-16 years of use with that original brush and replaced it with a new one. Wish I hadn't tossed it ... It was nicely broken in!! But ... I didn't know any better at the time.
