Prep: Hot Shower/ Dove Men's Face Scrub
    Pre-Shave: PAA Ice Pre-Shave Soap
    Soap: Krampert's Finest Frostbite
    Brush: Manhandled 24mm Boar
    Razor/ Blade: Muhle R41 Hybrid w. DeFitch DF91 Handle/ Voskhod (1)
    Astringent: Witch Hazel
    Post-Shave: SC Integrity Balm
    Aftershave: Krampert's Finest Frostbite
Great Menthol Monday Shave last night. I enjoy Menthol Monday and will be placing an order for some more menthol soaps soon. This soap smells good and works very well. I love m 24mm custom boar, which is broken-in I'd say. First time using the Muhle R41 head and man it is aggressive. The 37c gets a close shave but doesn't feel aggressive. This gets a close shave, but feels aggressive. Still worked well with little irritation. I really love the Voskod blades--so smooth but good sharpness and great for daily shaves. The Krampert's Finest aftershave is fantastic stuff. Just finished my Math and Accounting Midterms...have a great week!

image.jpeg Razor: Gillette Old Type Open Comb Ball End NDC 1920s (from "The Weekender" by Metalfield kit)
Brush: Fuller Amber Badger 1920s -1940s
Mug: Old Spice 1985 Cobalt Blue
Cream: The Body Shop Maca Root cream
    Blade: Feather (2)
Post shave: Thayers Cucumber WH, Jack Black Balm, ld Spice original Shulton 1973 glass cologne Stopper #3

The Meca Root whipped up nicely with the Badger. The Gillette Old OC is a nice razor, but it is rather aggressive with my blade of choice, the Feather. I just have to be careful with this light razor, and use no pressure. Very nice two pass shave with some touchup. Warm water rinse and pat dry. Some WH and after cleanup some JB Balm. Finished with some Old Spice original Shulton from 1973. Nice Spice. Y'all have a good one!

    The OneBlade Razor..:p
    [IMG]
    Three Pass Shaving Routine...

Hot Water prep & massage with Argan Oil
    OneBlade Razor (Pass Around)
    Feather SE Blade
    Mason Pearson Pure Badger
    French Monsovan Bol Tallow soap
    Thayers Original Witch Hazel

I just had the Most Comfortable All Over BBS Dolphin Smooth Shave with the OneBlade Today..The Feather Blade performs very well in this Razor..Its obvious to a Blind Man that the OneBlade has been designed around the Feather Blade..No Bones About it..I loaded a Gem blade to begin with but it doesn't click into place & when I had a shave there was clear movement with my barbed wire Whiskers..I wasn't happy with that to say the least..I suspected this would happen when I loaded it because the Gem Blade has cut outs on the side & it just doesn't get locked in the way the designers intended..:D

Moreover..The Feather blade even when locked down has a slight bit of play..Very small amount but its there..The blade is not rigidly held in place..I don't think it affects the shave any because of the Pivoting or Floating Head Design..The OneBlade looks Aesthetically pleasing to the eye & looks well constructed..I wont mention the Packaging because I don't bother with that Kinda Malarkey..Looks like an Indian Squaw could have perhaps made it though..;)

I was immediately struck by how Mild the OneBlade is..Its very Mild Indeed..The Feather blade makes up for this though because its a very sharp blade..On my First WTG Pass it reduced my 2 days of Whiskers with less efficiency than a Gem Featherweight for sure..Very comfortable though..It came to more to its own on my 2nd XTG Pass & Subsequent ATG pass & performed very well especially on the neck area..A Monkey would find it hard to get razor burn or any irritation with this razor..It is as forgiving as a Modern High End Cartridge System for Sure..This Razor is clearly designed to use a sort of even pressure on the Floating Head..Not any forward pressure but even pressure..I put an elastic band around the pivoting arm to test this & it just wouldn't remove a Darn Whisker..Its so Darn Mild..If you lock up a Modern Cart razor it wont shave worth a darn either as they are designed to use some pressure as well..:p

So what can I say..The OneBlade is one of the most comfortable SEs I have ever used & it offered me an All Over BBS result..Here comes the Paradox..I didn't find the OneBlade Comfortable to use..That is to say this thing is like a Mediaeval Design the way it handles during the shave..The Head is Very Clunky & Feels Very Loose Pivoting Back & Forth..Its reminded me of a Jack in the Box on a Spring..The Head can skim over your face when the angle isn't Spot On..That's not a problem once the penny drops of course but a preverbal pain in the Ass nevertheless..The design very feels very Primitive & Arcane..I found it quite an Awkward & Uncomfortable Razor to Use..There lays the Paradox..It offers a very comfortable shave but I found it very uncomfortable to use..:)

The OneBlade & the Feather was just so forgiving..The End Result BBS for me was Akin to a Cartridge Kinda Depth & Finish..Its a shallow BBS Result & that's Fine & Dandy of Course but its a lot less Comfortable to Shave with than a Top End Cart. Its a Mediaeval Instrument by Comparison..That's my First Impressions of the OneBlade Razor..:D

February Focus - German blades DONE! Best of the Best to the Finish!

    February 23

Razor - '59 Gillette Ball End Tech
    Blade - [IMG] (2)
Brush - Wolf Whiskers Custom Silvertip
    Soap - Mitchell's Wool Fat
Post - Cold rinse, Alum, Nivea

The RazoRock TTO has been banished to look shiny. The two nicks from yesterday are still visible today, though not too bad, so the challenge will be to not reopen them. However, with the Gillette Tech and Bic I should be fine. Assuming, of course, that it wasn't the blade's fault. I used the Wolf and MWF today. My Fat is down to the ring of death (sort of like the ring of fat in another place on me) but there is plenty left before I need to switch to a new puck. I soaked the soap as always, did an extra shake on the brush and started loading. About halfway through it seemed like it wasn't working as well as it usually does. Normally, though, I use a boar instead of a badger so I just gave it some more load time then lathered. It was a bit thin. I added just a bit of water to the brush and it seemed to make the problem slightly worse. Not enough to abort the process but not the usual lather I'm used to with Mitchell's. Still slick, though, so no reason to worry. I hope.

First pass with the Tech and Bic was what I was looking for. Smooth and effective. I was able to stretch the skin past yesterday's problems and finish the WTG no problem. Lathered again, and yes, still thin but I think workable. Went XTG for the second pass with G-slides on the neck for a nice DFS finish. No nicks, old or new, or any other problems. That's what a shave with a Bic blade is supposed to feel like. Diagnosis of crappy razor yesterday confirmed.

As to the lather, I think the main problem is just not enough surface area left to load efficiently with. The hole in the middle is only about nickel sized, but clearly the brush isn''t picking up enough load to produce the usual lather. I either need to load longer or relegate the remaining puck to a baggie until I have more to add to it. My Tabac puck is still days, weeks, months, from ringing out. Once it does I may keep what's left of the Fat and mix the two together. Something to consider.

Have a great Tuesday! It's my one day off this week. Have to do some shopping. Then hopefully a nap. And a beer. Maybe some vodka.
