  2. SATURDAY
Lazy morning shave today, using this vintage F. Fenney 'Tally Ho!' 7/8; Martin de Candre lather and TSD 'Cool Waters' finish.
This 175+ year old razor is such an incredibly smooth razor! I almost wish I had started SR shaving with a razor such as this—although the size of it may have been a bit intimidating!
    Wonderful shave!
    Have a great Saturday, all!

  3. This one was ordered 30/51 manchurian fan. Gustavo makes an incredible brush. The knot is among the best in my opinion.

    Thanks Robert!

Next shave will finish this tub of soap. MW is a funny soap but when u get t dialed in its a great experience.

Second shave with the Futur. A few hiccups but over all good results.

I dialed it up to 3 for about two strokes then went back down to 2. I think I was a little dry on my lather(Arko for today) for the first pass. It was a little pastey and the razor kind of grabbed as it went down my cheek. I tried to slick it up with more water on the second pass. The shave was saved but the Futur does shave differently than vintage Gillettes.

  6. Thank you - and yes, I reknotted the Grosvenor with a Frank Shaving Finest HD a few weeks ago. Did not like the mixed boar/badger knot much, now I love this brush ;)
  7. Thank you. I re-knotted it with a TGN Best Badger. It hold lather like crazy.

    Razor: Gillette Tech(J)
    Blade: Rapira Platinum Lux(6)
    Brush: Omega Syn.
    Cream: Proaso White Tube
    Oil: Shave Secret
Bowl: Tony the Tiger cereal bowl
    As: Nivea

Nice lather from Proaso, 1st. pass,WTG. 2nd pass ATG/WTG/XTG. A little extra clean up (6 th. edge on Rapira, maybe?) Felt smooth all the way though. A slight bit of irritation on upper lip. The cereal bowl will be replaced, for sure. My wife has a lota different bowls, until I find what I really want. I still like to experiment. Final outcome: Probably as close to BBS as I`ll ever get. Happy camper ( I used to live in a little town in No. Cal. named Happy Camp). Look it up ifyou don`t believe me (on the Klamath river).

  12. Once you settle in on an initial adjustment (sounds like 2 for you), leave it there and work on technique. As you've said, the Futur shaves a bit differently than most razors. You didn't say what blade you're using. I've found the Futur to be a minimalist razor that really that brings out the character of a blade. So experiment with different blades for a while, all at the same setting. Then go back and the tune the adjustment. Just my opinion, but it's based on my last 3 months with the Futur.

First shave with a straight completed! I was planning to just do my right cheek, maybe left cheek, but it was going well, and I'm a little thick headed, so I went ahead and did my neck too. That went well, so I did an across the grain pass on my cheeks, and a south-north on my neck, which isn't quite against the grain, I don't think I will be able to do against the grain there... That also went well, so I did a third pass - south north on my checks and another on my neck. All of this was 'baseball' pattern, lathering in sections.

I did pretty good with both left and right hands, had a little shake starting out. It's a bit disconcerting using something that sharp on your face.. but once I got a bit of a feel for it, the shakes went away and I got into a great focus. I did nick my left earlobe very very slightly, no blood even, but I feel it. Razor burn? Yep! Not as bad as I expected though. Alum told me where I need to pay more attention, as did the Pinuad. BBS? HA! Not even DFS. I got a lot of smooth spots, but plenty of rough patches. I haven't shaved since Wednesday morning, I thought it may be easier my first shave with a decent beard going. I don't know if that helped or hurt, but I at least got everywhere some. Overall it was much better than my first DE shave, but I just kinda had at that with no research at all. This time I've both had a few weeks of DE shaves, and watched a ton of videos, read advice, etc.. I'm happy with my first SR shave, but clearly there is a learning curve to be tackled.
